Alaska Guitar Concert Series

This concert series aims to bring to Alaska the best solo guitarists in the world. This is an undiscovered world of music for Alaskan audiences.

Tim Sparks is the first artist in the series, scheduled in Anchorage for Tuesday, June 22rd. I’ve been a big fan of Tim’s music for over ten years. With roots deep in traditional American, South American, and classical music, Tim has used his amazing technique to take the guitar into previously unexplored styles.

When I first heard his music he was delving deeply into the music of the Balkans and Eastern Europe, with its beautiful melodies and odd-metered rhythms. Several years ago, he began recording a series of Jewish music recordings. More recently, he has begun a return to his roots in American traditional, and Alaskan audiences will be among the first to hear this music.

If this series becomes successful, there will be the opportunity to bring many astounding musicians to Alaska. My goal is to have two concerts a year (one in spring, one in fall), with two artists each show. Below is a short list of guitarists I’d like to bring to Alaskan audiences.
