Winter Solstice 2003 Some folks may be wondering why the recent drop off the radar. Except for a few gigs, I stopped booking myself at the beginning of last year to spend time watching my son grow from baby to toddler. It’s been worth every moment. Here’s some pics.

As he enters day care/school, I will get a few hours a day to get back to music and performing.

An opportunity presented itself last summer when I was invited to teach for a week at the 1rst Annual Acoustic Alaska Guitar Camp (camp picture). Other instructors were Lynn Miles, Juno Award winning singer-songwriter, Alex Houghton, a wonderful finger stylist, and Doug Cox, do bro master. I taught intermediate guitar, acoustic blues and a one night course on the history and evolution of finger style guitar. Using materials originally collected to be taught at college workshops, it didn't take too much trouble to arrange it for the camp.

We’re looking forward to a second successful camp in 2004. Instructors will be David Wilcox and Stacey Earle & Mark Stuart. Doug Cox (Whose recent CD received a must-hear from editors at Acoustic Guitar magazine) will be back.
There’s another heads-up for guitar fans. I am putting together the first show of what will be the Alaska Guitar Concert Series. The first artist (tent. June 23rd) will be Tim Sparks (click here). Tim has been one of my favorite guitarist for 10 years. It promises to be an outstanding evening of music.

The immediate goal of the series is to introduce Alaskans to many of the musicians who have inspired my own playing. There is the possibility of bringing to Alaskan audiences some of the best acoustic guitarists in the world. I've spoken with many of these players over the last few years and almost all of them have asked to come to Alaska to play. We can make it happen.
